Decks, repaired or built new
A soft board, a wobbly step, or a deck that has had its day. We repair what can be saved, and build new when it cannot, for Wairarapa sun and wind.
Deck repairs
A board that gives a little when you step on it. Steps that wobble. Nails lifting and catching on bare feet. A deck gone grey, and you are not sure it is worth saving. Most decks can be saved, and we tell you honestly when one cannot.
We check the joists, bearers and piles underneath before we price anything, because new boards on rotten framing will not last.
- Board replacement and re-fixing
- Joist and bearer repairs
- Pile and subfloor checks
- Steps, handrails and balustrades
- Lifting nails and loose boards fixed
- Washing and prep before oiling
- Deck oiling and staining
- Old deck removal
Small repairs are charged by the hour, and often fit in the first visit.
New decks
From a ground-level deck off the lounge to a raised deck with steps and a balustrade. We check the ground, the drainage and whether a building consent is needed before we price it, and tell you early if one is.
- How high it sits above the ground
- Whether it needs a building consent
- The ground, drainage and pile spacing
- Timber grade and fixings for the weather
- Steps, handrails and safety barriers
- Access for materials and offcuts
A new deck starts with a free ballpark estimate from your photos, then a written quote if you want a fixed price. It can be split into stages, so you can start with part of it.
From first text to tidy finish
- Send photos. Use Get a price and tick the bigger job. A few photos and rough sizes are enough.
- Free ballpark estimate. Bryan replies with a price range from your photos, before anyone drives out. It costs nothing.
- Quote visit, if you want a fixed price. Bryan measures up and checks what is underneath. $247.50 plus travel. If you go ahead, it comes off your bill. If you don’t, it covers our time.
- Written quote, by stage if you like. Laid out stage by stage, so you can start with part of it. You accept it online.
- The work, and a tidy finish. You can follow progress and photos on your own job page. We clean up and take the offcuts.

Before you call
Do I need a building consent?
Many decks do not, but a deck more than 1.5 metres above the ground usually does. We check before we price it and tell you early if yours needs one, and who to talk to.
Can you just replace the rotten boards?
Often, yes. We check the joists underneath first, because new boards on rotten joists will not last.
What timber do you use?
Treated pine to the right grade for the job, and stainless or galvanised fixings that suit the weather here. We tell you the options and the price of each.
Can it be built in stages?
Yes. The written quote is laid out stage by stage, so you can start with part of it and do the rest later.
