We want everyone to be able to find us, read about our work, and book a job, whatever device or assistive technology they use.

Our commitment

The Wairarapa Handyman is a small local business run by Bryan White. We believe a website should work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnifiers, or voice control. We treat accessibility as part of doing the job properly, not as an extra.

The standard we aim for

This site has been designed and built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at Level AA. This claim covers the whole of wairarapahandyman.co.nz, including the booking form.

What we have done

Every page can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and there is a skip link so keyboard and screen reader users can jump straight to the main content. Text and background colours meet the AA contrast ratio, headings follow a logical order, images carry descriptive alternative text, and every form field has a clear label. The booking form works on a phone, its controls can be reached by keyboard, and it reads your estimate aloud to assistive technology as you build it. Buttons and links are large enough to tap comfortably, and the page keeps a visible focus outline so you can always see where you are.

Known limitations

A few of our older photographs are large files, so on a slow connection the gallery can take a moment to load. The pictures are decorative and never carry information you need to use the site. We are gradually replacing them with smaller versions.
